🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Very excited
So basically they got nothing
@@alexanderv.8961 all depends on the timing. They try to be fair
Ballatine's 21-year blended was a pleasant surprise. There an outfit called Liquor Off in Kamiacho, Tokyo. Can be worth a visit.
@@JackBlack-ii1ip Sounds like a good one
At airport duty free, you have to calculate the difference between airport one litre and supermarket 0.7 litre. Bottom line, duty free Airport is a rip off. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit
@@JackBlack-ii1ip Very hard to find a bargain in duty-free these days
Just thought of the channel today and hope you two are well!
Thanks P&W Doing great here in Reno. I keep thinking we should make a video to say hello.
KL Wines is a horrible company that after you order from them they delay delivery - claiming bad weather. They do this regardless of when you order. They're playing games with your business - Here is their 'song sand dance': "WE ARE CURRENTLY HOLDING YOUR ORDER pending your instructions. Due to the extreme weather conditions along the route between the San Francisco Bay Area and your shipping address, we highly suggest that you upgrade your shipping selection to a faster level of service. You are not required to make a change, but we are unable to take responsibility for wines that are damaged in transit by weather. We will wait for your response before sending out the order". This happens every time you order. Today, next week, next year.., anytime.
I have always picked up but that does not look good.
Tremendous entertainment quality!!!! In August 2024 I just scored one of these for $62. The first bottle I had was about $69. It was one of my first forays into high octane single malt. In today's landscape it's still a bargain.
@@jackthepickledhound nice find Jack
Let me have a Three Musketeers, and a ball point pen, and one of those combs there, a pint of Old Harper, a couple of flash light batteries and some beef jerky
A balanced diet
@@WhiskyMystery for sure
That's how you do it 🙏
Cheers
Another great video! I'm going to Scotland in 2 weeks. What is the catch if I bring back 6 bottles? I pay a small tax or an astronomical tax? Thanks.
Very small eg $3 per liter. Make sure you declare it and they will probably just wave you through. Have fun.
could i bring these on the plane if i fly to the usa?
Yes if it is official Duty free then they will give you the bottle in a sealed bag that you can take on as hand luggage. Anything bought outside duty free/airport must be in checked baggage.
@@WhiskyMystery thank you 😊
I know this is years late, sorry, but: at 7:40 that Distiller's Art Benrinnes 18 looked interesting, did you give it a second look, or possible purchase?
I didnt but in retrospect that does look good for $130
Amazing haul! I went to Scotland last year for Fèis Ìle and I brought back I believe 18 full bottles some small and tons of samples, everything arrived well and didn't have any issues at airports, however I alwas get anxious about customs, I will go again this year. Slàinte!
Excellent. It is always a bit scary
Great video nice whiskey scotch
Cheers it is a good one
So just replay NWA's Dope Man.
They used to have a great Bruichladdich selection
Yes!
Good luck with your new adventure Phil and Deepa. Hope you return one day. Thank you so much for all the pleasure you both have given.
Thanks Georgie
Great to have you back... albeit with me enjoying Limburg. So had to do thecreplay thing. Hope to catch you next time live. Slàinte mhath
Cheers
That 1979 imperial ($3100) sold for $1900 on SWA. Would you trust those bottles to be legitimate? Do you know if these auction sites provide any scam protection or is it buyer beware?
Auctions have no way to check. I have not had any bad experiences
PHIL!
Lets go!
What a fantastic live stream, thoroughly enjoyed watching it on the replay. It had everything: more whisky than started on the table, laughter, emotional moments and the conclusion that all Craigellachie 23 is good in different ways. First of all sorry to hear about your father. As my parents are getting older, it's something I think about every now and then. Dreadful thoughts, inevitable, but that must have been super tough. After hearing you guys rave about Craigellachie 23 for so long I finally pulled the trigger on a bottle last week. It was of course the new batch and I was hoping it would be close to the older batches you guys tried. To see it opened and enjoyed here days later was great! Good luck with the move to Reno! I'm sure they'll have some shops there which are worth a video now and then. Also know that I would watch a rearrange of the top (backdrop) shelve whisky for sure. Maybe a mini series of blinds from those bottles. The move seems like a good excuse for it, since you have to pack it all anyway. Whatever you do I wish you all the best for the future and hope to see you guys soon someday again. We always have the backlog of 1000 videos to keep us busy.
Thanks TFS. The whisky shelf came down yesterday. The room is starting to echo
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Enjoy Reno. I was through there once many years ago on a drive between Yosemite and Yellowstone. Seemed like a nice part of the world. I thought it was interesting, your talking about the channel as an arc around your blind tasting journey. Most UA-camrs seem to take a more open-ended approach. I wonder if your work with movies has made you more likely to see something like this in terms of having an arc with an ending that you have some idea when it's going to come from the outset.
Thanks NPA The arc is related to the learning curve. Once you get 80% of the knowledge you experienced most of the journey. But yes movie life must play into this also. Looking for start middle and end
Such a nice session to end your California vlogs. I’ll have to check Roy’s video with you as guests. It takes me a week to get thru one of his videos! 😂 Good luck with the move and exploring the Reno area. Perhaps shop tours from there in the future? Cheers! 🥃
Thanks Martin. We had a lovely time tasting.
So sorry to hear about your father - glad you were able to be with him at the end. Cheers to you and your family.
Thanks Mike. Yes it was a good as it could have been.
YEEEEESSSH! you guys are back!!! I finally cracked open my bottle, and its reminiscent aroma of Johnny Walker 1970's Black Label from Taiwan. This particular gem, an L14, was acquired during my visit to Miami back in November 2022 for $280. The moment of truth arrived during a tipsy tasting session with a friend. I offered him the choice of any new bottle to open and he opted for the CA 23 over the Snow Phoenix and the Balblair 90's single cask (54.1%). Not wanting to be caught bluffing, I decided to uncork it, reasoning that if it lived up to the hype, I'd have a two-year window to scout for a replacement while nursing this one. The neck pour was underwhelming but the whisky started to open up a few days later and quickly has become one of the favourite bottles in my collection alongside my Octomore 07.3, SV Glen Grant 25, Springbank 18 (mostly bourbon cask) and Macallan 2018 Classic cut. I'm not sure why but the 5th edition Flaming heart and Longrow 18 were disappointments this year.
Oh fantastic. Yes a bit closed up at first but they just keep getting better. No rush. Find a back up the new ones are expensive
Simply amazing! If you are a Craigellachie fan, this is a dream come true! Thank you guys for sharing this knowledge.
I was surprised at the differences myself. All fantastic though. I have since heard there is an L18 :-)
@@WhiskyMystery I just wish I could bring myself to open my L14 and L15 at the same time. I’m going to look at them again, but I’m pretty positive that I have two L15 in different shades. I’ll get back to you and let you know. I think not even in WhiskyBase is there an L18. So amazing knowledge again.
@@pepebruno1672 yeah we can never really be sure what is what. All part of the fun. Balblair 1990 releases are hilariously confusing. I think there are three different year 2nd edition.
@@WhiskyMystery so I looked, all my L15s are just like yours in color, and lighter than my L14s - with similar coloration to yours. Also the color differences between the two batches seem to be the same as yours - at least consistent in there. No L16s… Again, thank you for doing this lineup I fully understand what it takes. I need to get my hands on a couple of the 19s…
@@pepebruno1672 haha you sound like us.
Sorry for the loss of your Dad, Phil. We carry our parents everywhere with[in] us. Glad for him that it was not too prolonged. My catch-up browsing of your vids is still ~4 years behind, so you can't get rid of me that quickly.😉 If this is the end of your channel then on to your next adventure and the best of success with it, whether in Reno or elsewhere. The face-o-meter, though--and much else besides--will be sorely missed. Your comments about Deepa and sight/hearing is certainly interesting. I think you've earlier said Deepa's hearing/condition was like that from birth, so although not the same as human/animal "instinct" it also seems like a kind of sense because she's never experienced hearing separate from her eyes, perhaps unlike those who suffer hearing loss later in life. You mostly are very kind to Deepa, but I also see how often she is kind to you in return. It can be fun pushing our best friends' boundaries but we must take care not to damage our own hearts by pushing just that little too far for no real reason. Sorry, I don't mean that too ominous/a warning but simply more just self-reflection. Good luck moving house.
Thanks jbar. Haha 4 more years. Yes we kind of completed the original arc we set for ourselves. Yes Deepa was born with profound hearing loss. When she is really mad she talks but doesnt look at me so I can not interrupt :-)
How many batches of Craigellachie 17 have you tried? Have you tried some of the recent batches of 17?
Only one. Don't really have any experience
So glad to see you again on UA-cam Good luck in Reno. I live in the Bay Area, but have relatives in Reno. Keep the bottles Cool :) Love Craigellachie, but I have never had the 23.
Thanks Scotty. Too cold or too hot I suspect.
Oh no! I missed a broadcast! OoooOoo Craigellachie 23. Nice.
Not much Japanese whiskey in Japanese retail stores? Can Japanese whiskeys be found served at bars?
I dont have personal experience
Most of the time the old made brands are better but not always
This close. Different but still good
Phil and Deepa: this is one of your best videos. Thank you so much for sharing it with us, and thanks also to the good people at Glen Scotia for allowing you to record it. It's great for showing the quality of the whiskies, but also for the lovely joking/teasing interactions between the participants as well. Great stuff.
The only one that ends on the swings
@@WhiskyMystery A lovely coda, similar in role to the music at Port Charlotte hotel. Swings are an experience of pure joy, which you and Deepa were clearly experiencing, and I do mean flavour rather than alcoholic effect. As adults we should occasionally remind ourselves to get back on the swings.
@@jbar6284 that is really true
I went to maybe 15 stores in Japan and didn't see one EW12.
EW?
@@WhiskyMystery Evan Williams 12
@@Bolognesechris haha I have never looked for that in any store
Great video! If I buy 6 bottles in down town Edinburgh at $200 per bottle. What do you expect will pay when we arrive in San Fransico when I declare them?
Zero. I just walked in with six bottles a few hours ago. Declared them and paid nothing. Same when we brought 27 bottles back. The duty is only a few $ per Litre at worst.
I'm going to Edinburgh and Elgin. Do you have a few whisky favorite shops or non whisky shops that you like?
Edinburgh: Royal Mile Whisky and the Cadenhead shop of course. Elgin. Gordon & Macphail + Benromach distillery. have fun
Useless video as usual ! Cannot read any lbels , no price , no description etc
Dont worry. They are long gone and prices are now higher.
Interesting take. There were some surprises especially with some of the lower marks (Ardbeg) but also some of the higher marks (Bowmore), but considering this was a blind tasting, which is always relentless and humbling, you proved to have a much sharper taste than I would credit myself to have.
We also had zero whisky experience at the time we made this video
I know, all the more impressive. Did you maybe make a follow up video how your palate has changed up to today? Would be interesting.
@@domanz1 not on thiose particular bottles, but some did show up again in our later blinds.
Great video there. DID U GET 1 SET PACKED N SHARED 1 ??
Yes
I bought a glen grant 12 and dewars 16 double agent but glen is more effective coz of 48 abv
Hope they are good
nice👍👏
Great experience! which expressions of the Flora & Fauna collection you liked the most?
Never had any
@@WhiskyMysterygood point, I meant to ask about the Dailuaine from the barrel you tried, which has an expression in Flora & Fauna, but the one you got was totally different, how did you like it?
@@orlybriceno I would have to watch the video to remember. I know went to cragganmore after to buy the distillery bottle
Amazing video! Which tour did you take there? I am thinking on doing the Chivas Blending Workshop
Looks like it changed. I would do the warehouse experience. Drinking from the cask is the best
Wow, thank you so much for your video! I googled for the Heritage Experience just after getting an email of the distillery confirming booking, I am so excited! Where did you end up eating? I am taking a look at The Bonnie Bestie and hopefully beach afterwards, do you have sightseeing recommendations in the area, I think we'll spend the afternoon there.
Oh great. I do not really know the area but we enjoyed the beach visit and fish & chips after.
GRENTAUCHERS😅 Probably some illicit moonshine + Pineapple juice for $400😅😂🤣
Duty free is a rare bargain however it is till possible to get the hard to finds reasonably priced and travel exclusives only sold at the distillery or duty free shop. Never something you can get at home
Always worth a look
Arran 14 is fantastic! I found 3 locally but you have to really look around. And this is 2024.
Well worth the search
my local shop 🙂 . Mike, Janice and the rest of the team are awesome and we are very lucky to have them.
Oh nice
Buen video se párese a las mañanas en mi pueblo en la cordillera central de P .R. la neblina lo cubre hasta que calienta el sol.
Theres a glen Keith 21 available here in canada online for about $140 CAD... dirt cheap for a 21 yr old, I wonder what the catch is. Would you purchase it?
Well. It is not a well known distillery. Could be worth a go. So hard to tell
